What
This is the support repository for the 'Digital Radio Receiver' app.
Instructions
-
This app currently decodes FT8 traffic.
-
Use the ClockSync app (version 1.2.6 by Sergey Baranov) to verify the time on your Android phone. Getting the correct time on your phone is CRITICAL!
-
Press the
DECODE
button to test/demo the decode functionality. -
Change the
Callsign
and theGrid
values in app settings. Enablespotting
in app settings for added fun. Thespotting
feature is currently in the works (e.g. it does NOT compute SNR presently) - stay tuned for a more useful spotting feature. -
Attention: The apps keeps the display ON to allow the microphone to work on modern Android versions. Keeping the display ON is required on modern Android versions.
-
The
incrementing number
you see is the current 'seconds' value - it allows debugging the timing setup, and the app. -
Keep the phone next to an audio source (such as HF Rig / Radio / PC).
-
You don't need to touch any of the buttons in the app - it is all automatic ;)
-
The primary, and only focus of this app is on decodes-per-watt. It will never get any fancy features - sorry about that!
-
Attention: The
Time Delta
feature does NOT work currently. -
This version of
Digital Radio Receiver
is not CrashFree (yet). -

Tips
Listening to FT8 tunes all day might not be fun for everyone. Use the following cable to connect the sound-output of your radio to the mic-input of the Android phone.
App's Performance
The app is able to decode FT8 signals from almost 100 countries in a single day with a modest 'untuned' 20m dipole antenna.
