Autorip.sh -- RIP a dvd with multiple subtitles and audio tracks into a single Matroska file at a very high quality using H.264 encoding and deinterlacing ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright 2009 Andras Horvath (andras.horvath nospamat gmailcom) This program is free software: you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation, either version 3 of the License, or (at your option) any later version. If not, see <http://www.gnu.org/licenses/>. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To install dependencies (on debian/ubuntu): $ sudo apt-get install mplayer mencoder mkvtoolnix x264 lsdvd grep sed - Make sure there's enough space in the current directory as it's used as temp space. - The DVD is read several times so you'll probably prefer to rip from an image. e.g. run: $ dd if=/dev/scd0 of=my.iso $ autorip.sh -d my.iso For a copy-protected, region-coded or otherwise screwed-up DVD, use dvdbackup (http://dvdbackup.sourceforge.net/) to create a directory hierarchy, then run autorip.sh against the top-level directory. For best results, the dvdcss or libdvdread4 package should be installed (on debian or ubuntu, run /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh afterwards.) - run with 'nice', preferably in 'screen'. Refer to the nice(1) and screen(1) manual pages for details. - Run with '-h' for help and description of options. $ autorip.sh -h TODO: - more error checking of arguments - automatically create image file if argument is a real DVD reader - see if ripping time can be optimized without cost of quality - add recoding support (not just DVDs but any video/subtitle combinations)

Remove temp files if video was successfully ripped and assembled. Put temp files in a subdirectory for cleanness' sake.

mkvmerge sometimes exits with 1 if there were some warnings, even though it does assemble the video. This causes autorip.sh to exit with error as well.
