Keystroke visualizer for GUI version Emacs

This package is a keystroke visualizer for GUI version Emacs.
You no longer need to use external tools to display keystrokes when creating screencasts!

Usage

Add the following to your .emacs.

(require 'keypression)

Then, if you want to display keystrokes, do the following:

M-x keypression-mode

Run it again to turn it off.

The default is a simple display, so you can customize it as follows.

      keypression-frame-justify 'keypression-left-justified

ENT is shown as C-m

When I type "ENT", then "C-m" is displayed in keycaster.

I tried the following code in keycaster-pre-command,

(message "%s - %s - %s"
  (keycaster--keys-to-string (this-command-keys-vector))
  (key-description (this-command-keys))
  (this-command-keys))

and I received the following:

C-m - RET - ^M

I think key-description will help this issue.

not compatible with ace-window

I tried this package, found that it is not compatible with ace-window. keypression will take the first window number. Maybe keypression frame and window should be ignored by ace-window.

Feature request: handling prefix arguments

It would be great if prefix arguments done with digit-argument, negative-argument and universal-argument were put in the same frame as their following command. So when pressing

C-1 C-7 C-f

first "C-1" would be shown, then extended to "C-1 C-7" and then extended to "C-1 C-7 C-f", instead of being in three different frames.

self-insert hides previous line

When quickly typing C-f a first "C-f" is shown, but then immediately replaced with "a". I expceted "C-f" to still be shown until it's time for that to fade away.

There is common code for self-insert and repeated keys with comment ";; Just rewrite the bottom line.". This is good for repeated keys, but not for self-insert.

Config for NS build

I have checked the default configuration in NS build and EMP build. And I found we can only use fit-frame-to-buffer to show input keys.

However, in that case, we have to specify keycaster-use-child-frame as t for NS build. When I use nil for NS build, then an error related to keycaster-pre-commend is reported.

Leaves around stale child-frames? and needs turning off before main frame can be killed

After using for a while, I get a bunch of "untitled windows" from Emacs in my task bar.

Also, if manually exiting these before turning off keypression-mode, it won't let you exit the main frame:

Flag to temporary disable keypression?

Like inhibit-message, is there a way to temporary make keypression not to log any keystrokes? Maybe like,

(let ((keypression-log-p nil))
  ;; Do something here.
  )

When `read-passwd` is called, the password should not be catched.

When I perform some operations, such as push with magit, a prompt for password will pop up. The keys when typing password should not be captured and displayed.

Problems with tar-bar-mode.

There are problems together with the new "tabs" in Emacs 27.1.

I start emacs 27.1, load keypression and do M-x keypression-mode. It works as it should.

Then I do M-x tab-bar-mode and now I get buffer names " keypression-..." in the display from keypression! (When I deactivate tab-bar-mode again it seems to be back to normal.)

Limit to keyboard events

I suggest that only keyboard events are mentioned, not <mouse-movement>, <menu-bar>, <switch-frame> etc., which are generally not useful to see in a screencast.

Feature Request: Automatically move key display if selected frame blocks its location

If keys are set to display on the right but the selected frame is all the way to the right on MacOS, then it obscures the keys. Would be nice if they automatically shifted to the other side based on which frame has keyboard input and its location.

Similarly on MacOS if the frame reaches too close to the bottom then the first line of key display is partially cut off the screen, maybe half of its height is visible. Moving the frame up resolves it.
