You should install elementary-theme and elementary-icon-theme to be a complete experience.

Building

You'll need the following dependencies:

Run meson build to configure the build environment. Change to the build directory and run ninja to build

meson build --prefix=/usr
cd build
ninja

To install, use ninja install, then execute with com.github.alainm23.planner

sudo ninja install
com.github.alainm23.planner

Planner 2 is already old and needs a major update to be able to better adapt to all the changes you have undergone over the years. The next step is v3. I have some ideas and thoughts that I would like to share with you.

Todoist Sync: Todoist is a great service but is now limited to 5 projects maximum on the free plan. This is a big problem. I intend to downgrade Todoist support to a lower priority and opt for another sync service.
Sync Across Devices Always: I think that software that cannot be synchronized between devices is useless. I'd like to receive technical support for this problem.
CalDAV support: Planner has already started with support for CalDAV in v2.7, this is a great synchronization system but does not have all the features I would like to see in Planner (Headers, tags, reminders, etc.).

Quick Add does not work in flatpak

Describe the bug Quick Add Shortcut "CTRL + TAB" should trigger Quick Add to add a item in the inbox. The flatpak variant does not trigger this Quick Add app.

Black borders around windows and dialog boxes

Describe the bug When running the app under i3wm/Compton there's big black borders all around the window. The issue seems to be related with i3wm since disabling compton has no effect.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

Open the app while using i3wm

Expected behavior Not to have these borders

Additional context I tried to fix this by adding

.window-frame {
     box-shadow: none;
     margin: 0
}

to ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css but it didn't work. If I open the app with GTK_DEBUG=interactive and choose another theme besides elementary the problem seems to go away, so maybe the problem is there.

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. I would like an option to attach some media like images to my tasks

Describe the solution you'd like When making a task I should be able to attach media like location of my task, images associated with the task.

CalDAV sync not working as expected

Version: 3.0.8 Source: Flatpak (Flathub)

Steps to reproduce:

Launch app
Add new CalDAV account (in case is provider specific, its https://fruux.com/)

Expected behavior:

Account gets added and available tasks list are show on side menu

Found behavior:

Account gets added but no tasks are listed on the side menu

Notes: Apparently although tasks are not listed, you can create new tasks lists but they will no be shown.

Following are the only relevant logs from running G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all flatpak run com.github.alainm23.planner (They do not reappear when reopening the app with the account already added):

Can't Type Chinese or Japanese

Typing or copy-pasting Chinese or Japanese characters (into title, description, projects, labels) just give square boxes. I am on Linux Mint, not sure if other OS have the same problem. I haven't tried other eastern languages like Korean.

It'd be great to have some of our tasks in these languages

Disable auto-close of popup elements when focus leaves main app window.

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. When navigating the settings popup element and completing a form such as the CalDAV account settings, I want to be able to copy and paste from other windows in my OS. As soon as I click off the Planner window, the settings popup is closed and any filled form data is destroyed. This means all form fields (apart from a first single paste) have to be hand typed. Plus it's just annoying if you're mid-configuration and the UI keeps closing because you're doing things elsewhere in your OS.

Describe the solution you'd like Popup stays open or at the very least, completed form fields are preserved in memory until the app is closed.

Describe alternatives you've considered Hand typing all form fields and not clicking off the app while doing so.

KDE/Debian 11 "Could not save configuration"

Describe the bug When trying to add a CalDAV account, I get the error "Could not save configuration".

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

Go to settings by clicking cog icon in top of left sidebar.
Click on 'Synchronization > CalDAV' then '+' for a new account.
Complete the 4 fields (URL, user/pass and display name) and submit by clicking the search icon (presumably the logic here was find the server before saving credentials).
An error appears "Could not save configuration".

Expected behavior Configuration is saved and I can now sync my CalDAV tasks.

Screenshots Couldn't screenshot because when the UI loses focus, it auto-closes (and clears the form) and screenshotting in KDE was causing loss of focus.

Desktop (please complete the following information): KDE Plasma on Debian 11 stable

Additional context I know the credentials are not the issue, as I tested with wrong creds and got "could not fetch tasklists", so "Could not save configuration" indicates an error later in the logic.

A settings file was generated at /home/jeff/.var/app/com.github.alainm23.planner/config/glib-2.0/settings/keyfile which contains:

As you can see, the last two lines indicate the saving of general settings is ok and the file exists, so it's not a permissions issue.

Also, a keyring file is generated here: /home/jeff/.var/app/com.github.alainm23.planner/data/keyrings/default.keyring but no account is listed in the Planner UI.

Syncing interval with CalDAV / manual syncing not possible

Adding or changing tasks with a connected CalDAV account from Planner is being synced to the server immediately. Yet there is no option to force syncing with the server immediately to get remote changes. I am also wondering what the default/current syncing time is that is configured?

An option to perform manual syncing would be MUCH appreciated :+1:
