Felony is an open-source pgp keychain built on the modern web with Electron, React, and Redux. Felony is the first PGP app that's easy for anyone to use, without a tutorial.

Download Felony

You can download compiled versions of Felony for Windows, macOS, and Linux from https://github.com/henryboldi/felony/releases. The app is currently in its pre-release stage, so it hasn't been fully tested on all platforms. Confirmed to be working on Mac, as that's what the developers own.

How it works

1. Add public keys to your buddies list

A public key is like a username - Adding someone’s public key to your buddies list lets you send them messages. You can find other public keys on markets like Keybase.io and Darknet.

2. Encrypt a message

Select a recipient from your buddies list and compose a message. Only your chosen recipient(s) can read the message. Encrypted messages can be used to send sensitive information, such as an address, document, or anything intended to be read only by intended recipients.

3. Send the encrypted message anywhere

You can send the encrypted message on any website! Send encrypted messages over Facebook Messenger, Twitter DMs, YouTube, Instagram, or anywhere else. Felony is security when and where you want it.

To run the development environment run

add import key option to UI

This is a possible, straightforward approach to add existing private keys as discussed in #54 #34 and #7

There are other potential approaches though which may be incompatible with this one but there seemed to be some interest in it so I decided to submit this as a PR. Up to you to decide what to do with it ;)

You might want to test it some more first, but it should just add and save the keys in exactly the same way as when they're generated.

failed application start-up "npm run package"

Sign commits with GPG

Hi,

since this is a very security and privacy focused project, it would be great, if it would be possible to verify that the commits are from the real developers behind this project and are not being commited by an adversary.

An easy way to achieve this would be to utilize the GPG signing feature of git in conjunction with the Github GPG feature (https://github.com/blog/2144-gpg-signature-verification).

Getting error while installing windows app from release (today)

What's this issue about?

Getting a Javascript error in the main process dialog box.

Windows: %AppData%/Felony/log.log

Not able to find the application as it's not installed on the machine yet. -->

Expected behavior

Umm.. Should not give me an error dialog.

Actual behavior

Step1: Downloaded .exe from the release section. Step2: Clicked on the downloaded file.

Steps to reproduce

Same as actual behavior section. Downloaded from the latest release tag. [0.10.3]

Environment

OS : Windows10 NPM Version : 6.14.5

Feature Request: Use my (pre-existing) key pair

What's this issue about?

I cannot use the app until I have created a new key pair.

I do not want yet another set of keys. Why can't I set myself up using a set off keys that I have already generated (eg: the ones I use for my email)?

...sorry if this is a super-dumb question, but I am not that educated on PGP/GPG.

[BUG] - Can't decode messages encoded by felony

What's this issue about?

I have a private key managed by the gpg command line tools, and a private key managed by felony. With the gpg tools I can encode a message for my felony key and it decodes within felony. However, when I encode it within felony I can't seem to decode it.

Here's a screenshot of me encoding with gpg and decoding with felony:

The log file was not found in ~/Library/Logs/Felony/log.log

Expected behavior

To be able to decode felony messages using gpg tools.

Actual behavior

It prompts for the key's password then stops.

Steps to reproduce

Setup felony with person a
Setup gpg tools with person b
Use felony to encode a message to person b
Person b decodes the message and sees no output

Signal Protocol

I love encrypted messaging apps but I have concerns about using PGP given the problems that there is no Forward Secrecy. This is a pretty concerning issue given that there are no protections of all of a user's chat messages if the government ever recovers the private key. The developers over at Signal have thought through all these (and many more) issues and created the Signal Protocol and has been formally audited

I would love if felony used the official javascript implementation or at least added a Security.md file to the root of the project saying the protections offered by felony so users can make an informed decision about if felony meets their security and privacy needs

Install error - Windows 8.1 64 bit

Getting below exception in npm-debug.log on npm install.

It seems like some administrative privilege issue. But since i am using company laptop, i cannot have that privilege. Is there any workaround?
